There are a couple of people in my church who are so quick to judge others. Like for example, if they see you sad or isolated or if you get angry at something or depressed. They judge you, ignore you, gossip about you, instead of help and support you.

Q: I don’t know if it’s wrong for me to think this way, but here goes. There are a couple of people in my church who are so quick to judge others. Like for example, if they see you sad or isolated or if you get angry at something or depressed. They judge you, ignore you, gossip about you, instead of help and support you. They make me feel like being depressed is wrong. I don’t understand why they get so mad when someone is feeling depressed. They make it seem like we have to be perfect as Christians. They use scriptures to prove a point. I’ve been struggling with depression and self harm for years and I’ve always wanted to ask for help. But, I feel like I can’t trust anyone at church because I fear they’ll judge me. When I’m in church, I have to fake that I’m just so they won’t judge me or get mad at me. They make me feel so angry and confused. I have no support at all. They make me feel like worse about myself.

A: I am here to tell you sweetheart that they are absolutely wrong. The role of the Christian is to be loving and supportive. It is really hard sometimes to be a Christian. We are not called to be perfect or we wouldn’t need Jesus every single waking minute of our life. We are called to love the Lord with all our heart, soul , mind, spirit and soul and to love our brother or sister as we love our self. These are the Words of Jesus. It sounds like they are having real problems with their walk with Jesus. What I would like to have you do is go and talk to your Pastor’s wife. Tell her what you told me tonight and ask her if there is anyway that you could all get together and talk about different problems that we all experience as Christians. I think it would make an excellent Bible study topic for the youth group of your church on a Sunday or Wednesday night. I would like the Pastor’s wife or youth pastor to bring up how Christians should live that law of love and help to lift each other up. Jesus is coming really soon and we need to learn how to share that love with a dying world. The sad part is there are Christians who are dying on the vine in their own church. Don’t let a couple of misguided girls pull you away from Jesus!!! If the pastor does nothing, let me know where you live and I will help you to find a new church where you can really be blessed. God bless you sister!!!
